Implants
There have been many advances in modern dentistry, with one of the most significant being dental implants. Missing teeth can have a severe negative impact on your oral health if not replaced, including a loss of jawbone and loss of teeth as well as the loss of self-confidence issues associated with tooth loss.
Following a thorough oral examination, a detailed treatment plan is developed for you. We will take extensive x-rays from which a comprehensive treatment plan will be established to ensure the correct positioning of the implant. This is important
for many reasons including the need to avoid important anatomical structures such as nerves, blood vessels and air sinuses. We also need to ensure the bone height, width and density is sufficient to support such a fixture. To get this vital information wrong could compromise the implant placement and restoration. Receiving an implant is a two stage process requiring meticulous preparation. An implant is made from medical grade titanium; a dental implant is a substitute for a missing tooth root, becoming the solid foundation to which a crown, bridge or an entire arch may be secured.

When placing your implant, a local anaesthetic ensures you are completely comfortable, many patients report little to no discomfort during and after the procedure, often returning to work and their normal daily lifestyle the following day. Receiving an implant will take between 1 – 2 hours and involve a small incision in your gum-line; your implant is then gently guided into position where it naturally bonds with your jawbone, commonly taking between 3 – 6 months. Dependant upon your personal situation, a replacement crown or bridge may be placed at the same time you receive your implant, or temporary teeth may be placed whilst your implant bonds with your jawbone.
At your subsequent appointment with your Dental Clinique dentist, your new crown, bridge or arch, fabricated at our selected dental laboratory from high quality tooth coloured material is secured to your implants, rejuvenating your smile and returning your mouth to full health and function.
Successful placement and the longevity of your implant will directly relate to your oral and medical health. You may need to undergo a stringent oral hygiene routine for several weeks prior to and following your implant procedure. Although your implant is titanium and your replacement teeth are porcelain, your natural teeth and surrounding gums are still susceptible to gum disease. Continual oral health exams and cleaning appointments with our hygienist every six months, in addition to at home care of brushing twice a day and flossing once a day will ensure your new implant and natural teeth are kept in perfect health for many years.
