Crown and Bridge

Crowns can be seen as the best way to save a tooth and strengthen it, whereas a bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth.  A crown is used when a tooth has been weakened due to trauma such as a chip or a break. The crown fits over the natural tooth to strengthen it, creating a natural look.  If a tooth has been lost, a bridge can be used to replace it.  A bridge is an artificial tooth that is secured to the remaining teeth either side of the gap.

Crowns and bridges are often the most versatile and utilised restorative dental solutions available.  A crown encases the remaining structure of a tooth restoring strength and function, whilst a bridge replaces one or several missing teeth and is supported by crowns secured to teeth either side of the space.

Receiving a crown or bridge will often require two appointments.  Firstly, your teeth are carefully prepared so that when your crown or bridge is placed, it blends seamlessly with your natural teeth.

Impression models are made and used as a template by our dental laboratory where a skilled technician will create your new crown or bridge.  This process may take up to two weeks, however in the meantime you are fitted with a temporary crown or bridge, which will still enable you to retain your smile and function while your permanent crown or bridge is being created.

At your second appointment, your temporary crown is removed and replaced with your new permanent crown or bridge, which is secured using a specially formulated dental adhesive.

Although your crown or bridge is made from high quality tooth-coloured materials, your natural teeth are still susceptible to plaque and tartar build-up.  Therefore, it is important you maintain a regular at-home brushing and flossing routine as well as attend oral hygiene appointments every six – twelve months as advised by your Dental Clinique dentist, so your new smile stays fresh and healthy for many years to come.
